Val di Fassa - Val de Fascia

Seven villages in the shadow of some of the most spectacular peaks of the Dolomites

Val de Fascia is the ladin name of one of the five valleys of Ladinia: Fassa Valley. The only one in the region Trentino that represents the ideal destination for a regenerating holiday, focused on sport and relax.

The welcoming Fassa Valley is made of seven small towns in the shade of some of the most spectacular Dolomites peaks such as the Marmolada, the Sella Group, the Sassolongo Group and the Catinaccio Group with the magnificent Towers of Vajolet. The Fassa municipalities: Canazei, Moena, Mazzin, Vigo di Fassa, Poza di Fassa, Campitello di Fassa e Soraga; rise in the highest part of the main river of the valley, the Avisio, and are linked to others ladin villages through two alpine passes that surround the striking Sella Group. Through the Gardena Pass the homonymous Valley can be reached, while the Pordoi Pass allows you to reach the Livinalongo Valley.

Like the rest of the Ladinia, the economy of Fassa Valley is strongly tourism-oriented. During the winter season the valley welcomes tourists with modern skiing plants provided with breath-taking slopes in the Dolomiti Superski district and with immediate access to the Sella Ronda. Also in summer it is possible to make to most of the ski lifts to reach enchanting places such as lakes, woods, plateau, and the most beautiful peaks of the Dolomites.

The “fassian” nature will allow you to discover a strongly ladin-related environment. Ladinia smells like architecture, cusine and hospitality. In order to preserve the natural heritage of the Fassa Valley two natural parks were established: the Natural Park Paneveccio – Pale of St. Martin and the Natural Park Sciliar – Catinaccio. Magic reigns in the ladin valley, where it has handed over legends and popular tales strongly linked to its mountains; among those we must remember the legend of King Laurino and the one of Ciambolpin.

At Moena, among the buildings of the fabulous historic centre, divided in “rioni”, you will find the churces of St. Vigil and St. Volfango. In Canazei is located the ice-rink where the fassian hockey team trains and plays and a wellness centre, that follows the ancient philosophy of the Roman “thermae”. At Mazzin triumphs a rural manor-house, the “Cèsa Battel”, while in Vigo di Fassa you will find the Ladin Museum and the Ladin Cultural Institute. There is just one sign of fortification of the Fassa Valley and it is visible at Pozza di Fassa through the Tower of Pozza. For the youngest ones, but for adults as well, there is the chance to have fun in one of the three adventure-parks in the valley. Spread all over in the valley you will meet the “toblé”, the characteristic barns of the Fassa Valley.

During the year a number of cultural and sports events are organized, such as the Ladin Carnival with the typical wood handmade masks called “facéres”, or the Marcialonga and the Gran Festa da d’Istà.
